Glazed pictures

Overall size 30cm wide by 37cm tall. Stitching techniques include hand dyed silk ribbon.

Overall size 33cm wide by 27.5cm tall. Linen covered outer mount.

Overall size 35cm wide by 29cm tall. Always a spectacular sight in early spring are the drifts of pink sea thrift clothing the cliff tops of the north Cornish coast. Stitching technique uses French knots for the sea thrift and hand dyed silk rods sewn to the rock surfaces. This creates an added sense of texture.

Overall size 30.5cm wide by 36.5cm tall. Wistman's Wood is both a magical and eerie place. Stunted oak trees grow over and amongst the moss covered boulders on the upper slopes of Dartmoor. Stitching techniques with various embroidery stitches and hand dyed silk rods adding texture to the boulders. A larger view of the textile art is available to view here in greater detail.

Overall size 30cm wide by 40cm tall. Hand pained and embroidered with threads and hand dyed silk ribbons. Various embroidery stitches have been used to create the original piece. They include French Knots and the Turkey Knot stitch. The Turkey Knot stitch is also known as the Ghiordes Knot. This stitch originates from Turkey. It is the rug stitch, commonly used there and the technique has been adapted for surface embroidery. It creates the Bunny Tail (Lagurus ovatus) grasses in this picture. The work is presented in a shadow box style of frame with a linen covered outer mount.

Overall size 20cm wide by 26cm tall. 'When gorse is out in bloom, kissing is out of season', so the old saying goes, as flowering gorse may be found on Dartmoor throughout the year. Gorse or furze as it is also known was adopted by Dartmoor sweethearts as a symbol of steadfast love. This piece of textile art has been worked using threads and hand dyed pure silk ribbon. Worked on calico and linen. Framed with a shadow box using a hardwood frame. Linen covered mount.

Overall size 19cm wide by 21cm tall. Raised stumpwork embroidery made popular as an embroidery technique in the Jacobean era. This adds a third dimension to the finished piece. The ladybird has been framed in a shadow box to set off the artwork. Satin threads have been used.

Overall size 17cm wide by 20cm tall. Raised stumpwork embroidery stitched with metallic threads. Black wool felt has been used to create the beetle's body. Stitched onto pure linen and framed with linen mounts and a shadow box. Finished with an oak frame.

Overall size 31cm wide by 31cm tall. Threads and silk ribbons have been used to create the bees and the flowers on this sampler. The picture has been finished with a linen mount in a shadow box frame. The frame is ivory with gold.

Overall size 19cm wide by 23cm tall. This picture has been stitched in metallic threads on pure linen with two decorative buttons attached. It has been framed in a linen mountboard, with a shadow box style, with an ivory coloured frame.
